So the order of my favorite musical artists are as follows:

1. John Coltrane
2. Derek Webb
3. Bela Fleck

Following those three, in no particular order, are Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Charlie Parker, U2, and thats really it. Of course there are plenty of other musicians/bands that I like, but those are the ones who stand above the rest in my mind. Perhaps my musical knowledge isn't vast enough, I don't know. But that is who I like right now. Have a good day.

Thursday, November 10, 2005

So, you should call mine and Adam's phone and listen to our answering machine: 864-977-7539. Even though you can see my round belly. I like it because Leah looks really happy. And thats what I want to do: make her happy. This weekend has been really good. Friday night I hung out with Paul and watched Three Amigos. I also washed clothes for the first time in about four or five weeks. On Saturday, I went up to NC to hang out with Leah, and we rode up on the Blue Ridge Parkway for a little while, almost ran out of gas, and then watched Kingdom of Heaven. We really had a lot of fun. And today we went to church and some of the older people at church had this nice supper for us tonight, and they made a funny video, so that was fun. Well, I've got Greek to translate. Goodnight.

Wednesday, November 02, 2005

It's been a while... i've been pretty busy this semester... writing a Church History paper and studying for Greek and beating Nathan at guess who and hanging out with Leah (not nearly as much as I would like to)... sometimes its just hard to come up with a good, interesting xanga post... well, have a fun day...

Wednesday, October 12, 2005

Adam, Leah, and I went to Knoxville to hangout with some of Leah and
Adam's friends. We had a lot of fun... we saw two movies, and I almost
bought a hat... before we went to knoxville, the praise band from
Discover church went to play at the church that sent Pastor Dan down
here... it went great, we had a lot of fun, even though it was a little
strange being in a Charismatic setting... it was cool, though...
anyway... i've got to go to Greek... have a nice day...
Following the strange, somewhat disturbing introduction by the pastor,
Sandra McCracken played about five or six songs, with Derek
accompanying her. It was good, but I came to hear Derek, not Sandra.
After her performance, Derek came back out, along with a former member
of the Normals, on piano. He began with a very fitting rendition of
"The Times, They Are a'Changing," by Bob Dylan. He followed that up
mostly with songs from his current CD, I See Things Upsidedown, and his upcoming CD, Mockingbird, which seems like it will be a worthy followup to both I See Things Upsidedown and She Must and Shall Go Free.
One of the many amazing things about Derek Webb is his sheer
versatility. His songs, which cover an amazing range of musical styles,
sound excellent both with just him and his guitar or with the entire
band. His musicianship is amazing, and only gets better with each
album, and lyrically, he must be one of the greatest Christian
songwriters ever to live. In all honesty, I put him far above other
modern greats, like Rich Mullins, and at least at the same level as the
great Christian songwriters of ages past, such as Charles Wesley and
Isaac Watts. I don't think anyone in his right mind can deny that there
are few songwriters in the entire music industry better than Derek
Webb. Maybe I'm just biased. But, needless to say, it was an amazing
concert. After he performed, Leah and I went and talked to him for a
couple of minutes, and he is a super nice guy. We told him that we are
engaged and when our wedding is, and he told us to let him know how
things are going after the wedding. Thats just a nice guy. We also told
Sandra McCracken that we are engaged, and she said that we look like we
are perfect together. She was right. We are.

So I've been engaged for about two weeks now, and it
is great. I am by no means perfect, and Leah knows that, but I love her
to death. I want anyone who reads this to know that. I love Leah Henson
to death, and I can't live without her. I certainly don't let her know
that enough, but I do. She is an amazing girl, and, though I believe I
said this in a pretty recent post, any of you who know her know that I
am the luckiest guy in the universe. I mean, I think Derek Webb's music
is great, but if I had to give up listening to Derek Webb in order to
be with Leah Henson, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I'd even give up Greek
to be with her. I could write tons more about her than I wrote about
Derek Webb, but I need to get to bed, and my roommate just went to bed,
so I'm going to have to call it a night right now. So, Goodnight.
PS: Come out and see Dear Ransom on Saturday night at Marietta Baptist Camp...
